Máta Stud

Visit one of the oldest studs of Hungary, that’s history looks back on 350 years: this is the Stud of Máta in Hortobágy!
Stud of Máta is amongst the biggest studs in Hungary, owns nearly 270 horses. It was founded by the City of Debrecen. The main priority of the Stud is the gene conservation and breeding of the Nonius breed that got recognised as a „national treasure” of the country in 2004. The Stud is very important from touristic point of view too, the „Puszta carriage tour” attracts thousands of guests every year. If you have not visited the „Hortobagyian Equastrian Day” yet, do so as this event is the feast of horses and horsemen too!
You can find an interactive exhibition about the history of the stud and a gifts shop at the main building. The stallion’s stable is in the northern wing. József K. Nagy’s pottery shop is just on the opposite side, it is worth taking a look at his famous and beautiful black ceramics- from Nádudvar.
At the rear wing of the Central Stable is Cafe Nyerges. While you enjoy a cup of coffee you can take a look into the life of the stables through a glass wall. In case you would like to try your horse riding skills, go ahead, book an appointment and enjoy the ride either you are a beginner or an experienced rider!
