Hortobágy Nature Trail

The Hortobágy is the river crossing the Great Hungarian Plain (also known as Alföld). It winds parallel to the River Tisza southwards and finally flows into the River Berettyó. The Hortobágy Educational Trail is designed to present the wildlife of the Hortobágy River and its surroundings. The educational trail is divided into three main parts: the aquatical trail (contains 12 stations), coastal trail (contains 9 stations) and an exhibition. The water trail starts at the foot of iconic Nine-arched Bridge. In the south, from the riverside slaughterhouse, in the north, a few hundred meters above Máta footbridge, it is almost 3,5 km long can be traversed by boat (only with the Hortobágy boat trips) with a guide. The 9 stations of the coastal trail can be explored on foot in the village and on the riverbank. The coastal trail’s length, from the starting point in a northerly direction to the railway embankment, is a maximum of 1.3 km, with a short detour to a bird-friendly garden in the courtyard of the village house. The exhibition is in the Village Shopping Mall in the village center close to the Hortobágyi Csárda.
